Zeitoun

By Dave Eggers

Abdulrahman and Kathy Zeitoun are typical middle class Americans, raising children and running a house-painting business in New Orleans.  As Hurricane Katrina approached, Kathy evacuates with their four young kids while Zeitoun stays to watch over their home and business.  As the floodwaters rise, he travels the city by canoe, feeding abandoned animals and helping elderly neighbors.  Days later, police officers armed with M-16s arrest Zeitoun on his own property, adding a new layer to the tragedy his family is enduring.

*This is a special book club gathering sponsored by the Kansas Humane Council that will meet at 6pm.  Denise Low will be the guest speaker.
